The group was formed in 1999 to combine the strengths of owner-run business centres with those of a nationwide network. It traded as ecos office center until November 2023 and has used the name ecos work spaces since. The parent company is based in Eschborn near Frankfurt.
Unlike centrally run chains, ecos is an association of independent operating companies: every location is run by local entrepreneurs, and the group's management consists of active site operators themselves – Michaela Fischer, Thomas Chlubek and Oliver Lieckfeld. The group now employs more than 180 people.
The portfolio covers more than 700 private offices and over 2,000 desks: furnished single and team offices, hybrid models combining a fixed office with flexible desks, coworking on day, week and month tickets, and 80 conference and seminar rooms.
